The South Tour

For the south tour, we first drive to Rabil with its
19th-century chapel, Sa’o Roque from 1802, the
oldest chapel on the island, soberly painted and
decorated, reflecting the tough history of Boa Vista.

From there, we head to the dunes and beaches ofMorro d’Areia through the endless white dunes, visiting the bays where the turtles swim and comeashore to lay their eggs.

We then continue across the sand dunes to the
caves of Varandinia, arriving at the 8 km long
beach of Santa Monica with its vast white sands
and sky-blue water.

At the Santa Monica bar, you can enjoy a drink and
a bite to eat, but you will also have time to swim in
the beautiful bay!
After this rest period, we continue our way to the
shark beach, where sharks gather to mate during
the season. There are as many as 60 different
species of sharks and rays on Boa Vista, but the
most common are nurse sharks and hammerhead
sharks.

There have been no reports of attacks on humans
in the recent past, as these sharks tend to be shy
around people.

From Shark Bay, our journey continues to Povoaçao
Velha, the first inhabited place and oldest village
on Boa Vista, with its peaceful, beautifully laid-out
market square, pretty houses, boutiques, woodworkers
and a few local drinking establishments. We will
take our time to look around, shop and have a drink.

From there, we drive back to your accommodation.
